I wasn't sure if I'd like this book but chose to give it a chance. I found myself unable to put it down. It's a different storyline for sure. A well written gripping tale. Cate is such a loving surviving soul. Lucifer shows a side of himself you dint expect to see. And as one important character says "It's all in the interpretation. " This story will definitely make you think and rethink.. look forward to more from Ms Morgan.Tags : Amazon.com: Embracing the Darkness: A dark paranormal story you won't believe! Embracing the Darkness A dark paranormal story you won't believe! Black Rose series Book 1 eBook Laura Morgan Reviews
This book had a decent plotline, but the writing, the editing, and continuity issues just dragged it down. I had many moments when I wanted to just DNF, but the overarching plot had merit so I wanted to see where it would go. On the positive side, we have a strong heroine - yeah! But then she gets put into powerless positions so often (and then has sex) that her strength gets lost. The world building was weak - she ages 100 years, but the earth plane seems to be much the same every time she visits - funnily enough, I think 2016 and 1916 are vastly different. Lazy, lazy, lazy.
The author tries very hard to build the supernatural world, but fails - this was a long book, and we know more about what Cate ate than the world she inhabited. Her favorite clothes were the same over 100 years - black jeans, t-shirt, biker boots, leather jacket. Hmm. Most importantly, how did she survive in the light for so long, when she couldn't survive in the dark for the same period of time before her transformation - inquiring minds want to know.
With an editor, this could have been a much better read, because the bones of good story are there.
Embracing the Darkness (The Black Rose,#1) by Laura Morgan is one of the most intriguing books I have read to date. I honestly didn't know if I liked it or not while reading, not because of the storyline or it being a tad controversial or taboo. On reflection after I finished it I came to the conclusion that I loved it!! It kept me guessing right up until the last sentence what would become of Cate and the other characters entwined in her story.
The storyline was incredible, original, full of tension and drama. I especially loved the power play between Uriel and Lucifer and that Uriel had a bit of a bad side even though he's good. I love the perception of good and evil which will make you question yourself. If something is evil, can it do good? And if something is good, can it do evil? Hmm..the mind doth wonders.
The only thing I didn't like about the book is the time frame. I think the gaps are too big but on the other hand it also works. I wanted to know what happened within the time gaps but yet if they happened I'd want to know what will happen in the future too. Embracing the Darkness is so in depth that I think it'll make an amazing tv series.
Laura Morgan is a author to watch out for. Her writing is concise and eloquent and safe shows depth and character development throughout the story. She will suck you in so far into the story that you'll want to be apart of the world of Hell or Heaven or maybe if your like me both.
I would highly recommend this 5 star read. Enjoy!

Darkness vs light, angels, demons, witches and lots of little unexpected twists along the way ...a great paranormal read which has that dark edge.
I don't want to reveal too much, when Cate turns 18 everything suddenly changes for her, she finds out her father is the devil and she makes her choice to join him in hell. This becomes a dark journey, although for me personally I didn't find this book overly dark, but it certainly has that darker edge.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the storyline kept me captivated the whole way through, I was hooked until the very end - paranormal by far has to be one of my favourite genres.
I love Cates character and how she 'embraces her darkness', sexuality and her ever changing world. Although I did find Cates tendencies to happily accept her unexpected circumstances too quickly a little frustrating at times. But having said this, I absolutely loved the steaming chemistry throughout, along with the tension and those unpredictable twists that arose.
This book will leave you wanting so much more, I can't wait to get started on book2, and highly recommend one-clicking the full box-set.
was good then just got too long lost the joy of reading toward the end
Strange story line, poor character development. Characters lack defined personality and the incest is off putting. Didn't enjoy this book and probably won't read the others in the series.
First off I should say that I'm about to give a spoiler so stop reading here if you'd rather not know.
On the positive side, it's very well written. But, that's about where it stops. I couldn't even finish the book because it's just too strange. I have no desire to read about a woman sleeping with her brother, then her father and I stopped where her uncle (who is supposed to be a Heavenly angel) starts trying to get in her pants. What human being wouldn't even question at the very beginning when her father, Satan or not, tells her that she is betrothed to her brother? She just goes along with and loves every minute of it. I really hope I don't hurt the author's feelings but I have to wonder where her mind was when writing this book. The entire idea behind it is just sickening and makes it incredibly difficult to really delve into the book and escape reality like I like to when I read. The entire time I'm just so confused and disgusted so I had to stop reading.
This could have been a really great book if Cate had been stronger and opposed to incest..with not only one, but THREE different family members. I really wish I could have finished it, as I said the writing is rather beautiful, but the story line..I just couldn't keep subjecting myself to.
Awesome story packed with lots of twist and turns!
I wasn't sure if I'd like this book but chose to give it a chance. I found myself unable to put it down. It's a different storyline for sure. A well written gripping tale.
