Revenge of the Wolf The tale of one man struggle to forgive and to be forgiven when hatred is given unrestrained and unquenchable power edition by Wyatt Michael Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I was fortunate to receive an advance copy to review of "Revenge of the Wolf" from Wyatt Michael, which is set to be released April 9th, 2014. Michael puts a new spin on an old tale, and originality is key if you are going to tell a story in a genre that has been covered multiple times.
It is set in London during the 1800's and a string of murders has the town on edge and Police Commissioner Howe is putting everything at his disposal to catch the culprit. But is he looking for man or beast?
With each murder, Howe keeps finding clues about the killer. However, with each step forward, the case turns from being grisly police work to something much more personal...
I don't want to go into too much detail about the plot so that I don't inadvertently give away any spoilers. This novel is very complex in the number of characters, backflashes, and plot turns that are involved. However, it is the complexity that makes this an enjoyable read instead of putting the reader to sleep.
If you are a fan of horror, this book has you covered. If you like thrillers, well that's in there too. Romance? No, this isn't Twilight.... and that's really not a bad thing. For once, the "monsters" do what they do best - strike fear and terror into people and kill them instead of falling in love with them. It's nice to get back to the basics in that regard!
I highly recommend "Revenge of the Wolf" and this author. This book has me wanting to read his first book, "The Whaler Fortune." I am a fan of stories on the sea - and this topic with this author has me intrigued!
Strengths
- The descriptions of the settings were very detailed and the plot was solid.
- I like the fact that this isn't the run of the mill werewolf story repackaged - it actually takes the idea and uses it in an entirely different fashion.
- Grammar and spelling were no issue at all - which is always a blessing!
- The plot revelation was not too early and not too late, the author had a great sense of timing in this regard!
- I am entirely jealous of the author's video, which he said he made himself! I am sure it took a great deal of time, but the result was worth it!
Weaknesses
- There are just a couple of scenes that had me waiting to see where they would come back into play later on in the book to see where they fit in, but they never did. In a way, though, it served to add to the mystery aspect of the book. It kept you guessing as to where things were heading.

I absolutely adore a good werewolf novel, but you are so correct in your opinion that most written are stupid, (big sigh). What I find irritating is that they are either written about a sheriff in a small town, too gory , too much hard-core sex , or someone crying every other sentence and if I see one more cover of the shirtless six packed man on a werewolf book I'm going to scream , loudly, but what I like about revenge of the werewolf is that I love anything old England, the descriptions, the characters were spot on there was just enough of a hint of sex , Gore was believable and the anticipation for the next killing(s) had me curling my toes, the plot was not predictable and as I do while reading so many werewolf books, I did not roll my eyes at the ceiling in exasperation not one time while reading this book, basically everything I love in a good werewolf book.
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.
This book doesn't follow the genre I normally read, and although a little skeptical, I finished it in less than two days.
Revenge of the Wolf is not an easy read, full of detail and intrigue, it takes you on a mystery set in the 1800's about dark secrets the characters have carried most of their lives. This book keeps you guessing from the beginning and then the details come together quite nicely at the end.
I really enjoyed this book. It was very descriptive and The violent scenes were well done. I also liked how the main character was both good and evil, torn between the two. I was pleased and surprised to find Edgar Poe in one of the chapters. I also enjoyed the relationship between Cecil and Davey, but the ending was very sad. Good Job Mr. Michael.
Disclaimer I am not a horror fan and I am really good friends with the author.
I read the book out of respect for my friend putting so much time and hard work the creation of this story. I was pleasantly surprised at how he took what is a story with a horror theme and made it into a page turner of a book. The morality theme that plays throughout the book is well done without being heavy handed or preachy at all. The plot is exciting and you are anxious to see what plays out and it has plenty of unexpected turns and twists that are definitely contrary to formula written types of books.
Do yourself a favor, take a break and read a great little story that is enjoyable and you will stay up late at night reading because you want to see how the author finishes it all up.
Wyatt is a well rounded artist doing everything from singing, playing guitar, writing movie scripts, acting, writing, etc, etc. great down to earth guy that is easy to sit and chew the fat on plenty of different subjects.
Definitely a worthy read!
